Austrian royalties, Crowley copyrights, and the legal background of the “Caliphate” dispute.
“Caliphate” O.T.O. funding source locked up by Austrian judge: District Court Josefstadt, Vienna, 17 July 1998. Judge Friederike Strauss ruled that no royalties were to be paid either to the “Caliphate” O.T.O. or to A.R. Naylor, literary executor for Aleister Crowley, until the dispute was settled in court or by agreement.
The Josefstadt ruling
A decision made in the District Court Josefstadt, Vienna, Austria, where Judge Friederike Strauss ruled on 17 July 1998 that no royalties shall be paid either to the “Caliphate” O.T.O. or A.R. Naylor, literary executor for Aleister Crowley, until such time as the dispute is settled between the “Caliphate” O.T.O. and A.R. Naylor in a Court of Law, or until an agreement is reached between them.
This ruling set an important legal precedent for Europe and the USA, a signatory to the Geneva Copyright Treaty.
When, in October 2000, the English Court ruled in favour of the “Caliphate”, the monies were released and Edition Ananael paid. Read the Court Order of October 2000.
